Walrus Haulouts

During summer months, groups of walrus, often numbering in the thousands, haul out on ice floes or on land if no ice is available. When walruses haul out on land, they are more prone to stampeding when they are startled, which can kill younger animals.

Nine important haulout sites have been documented in Lancaster Sound.
